DGTV was set up in 2022 when the Scottish Youth Film Foundation ran their annual film festival at the Bridge, Dumfries. A local group of young people from the region were invited to work on their own short documentaries and participate in a live TV broadcast from the film festival. They later worked together on a short film, WEDNESDAY’S CHILD, screened at the Robert Burns Centre Film Theatre on 6 June 2023. They also visited First Light Studios in Leith.
SWMF has been running weekly filmmaking sessions at the Stove, Dumfries on Monday evenings (4.30-6.30 pm) supported by the Holywood Trust for 14–19-year-olds, and made a short film under professional conditions for 19-26 year-olds, supported by Screen Scotland’s Film Education Fund in August 2024.
Productions last year included a mockumentary about recycling called BINVASION and a short form drama called SHANTER. Our most recent short film is called ‘BLACK ICE’, shot on location at Dumfries IceBowl and Millgreen.
