SHORTWAVE short filmmaking project.

This is a three-year project, supported by Young Start from the National Lottery. This will support young people in the region, up to the age of 26 who wish to explore the world of filmmaking and want to work on a creative project where they have artistic control.

There will be an open call for entries across the region, with the aim to make three short films a year (running time 5 minutes or less), for formal groups across the region, or a group of friends who will come up with a creative idea and subject. The proposal could be for a short documentary or animation as well as a narrative drama. All applications will be acknowledged, and, if we can, will be given feedback to develop their ideas. There will be three such calls each year – in October, February and May. We hope this gives people time to develop their ideas if their project is not selected in the first round.

We have money to support travel for those who need it. We want to encourage creativity in young people in the region and enhance their practical skills in filmmaking and associated areas (costume, make-up, performance, writing, music composition, editing, sound recording, prop making – the list is endless).

We will try to ensure that we cover the entire region so if you are interested in getting involved but don’t have a group to work with, we will try to fit you in. We need volunteers for all three films each year.

We will arrange screenings in local communities, but we will, if the films are of a certain standard, enter them for film festivals as well
